Khan was originally a hereditary title among the Tatar and Mongolian tribesmen (particularly Genghis Khan , 1162-1227), but is now used as a Muslim surname throughout India. The name Khan is not only used in India, the name is also used in Pakistan, Afghanistan and parts of Iran.
