Kvačany (Hungarian Kvacsan - until 1888 Kvacsán ) is a municipality in central Slovakia near the town of Liptovský Mikuláš .
It is located in the Chočské vrchy in the northern parts of the Liptov .
As early as 1256, the area was described as "desert" in a document, and in 1319 the place was first mentioned in writing as Kovachan . The Sankt-Katharinen-Kirche dates from the beginning of the 14th century, in 1456 the place Dlhá Luka (German Lange-Wiese , Hungarian Hosszúret ) is mentioned for the first time in writing . There has been evidence of a parish school in Kvačany since the 16th century, and over the centuries the population was mainly occupied with sheep breeding, agriculture and forestry.
