The women's marathon at the 1998 European Athletics Championships took place in Budapest , Hungary on August 23, 1998 .
The Portuguese Maria Manuela Machado won the race with a new championship record of 2:27:10 h. Vice European champion was the Belarusian Madina Biktagirowa ahead of the Italian Maura Viceconte .
As in 1994 , there was a team classification, the so-called Marathon Cup. For this, the times of the three best runners per nation were added up. However, the evaluation was not part of the official medal table. The team from Russia won ahead of Italy and Germany.
