The men's long jump at the 2016 European Athletics Championships was held on July 6th and 7th, 2016 in the Olympic Stadium in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam .
European champion was the British defending champion, Olympic champion of 2012 , reigning world champion and vice European champion of 2006 Greg Rutherford . Second place was taken by the Swedish Championship -Third of 2012 Michel Tornéus . Bronze went (to the two-time runner- 2005 / 2013 ) Ignisious Gaisah from the Netherlands .

24 participants competed in two groups for the qualification round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 8.00 m. Four athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the eight athletes placed next to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). So, in the end, 7.80 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
