content

With the exception of “One Minute” ( English for “one minute” ), the lyrics of Lieder are in German. The music was written jointly by Sebastian Kirchner, Tobias Kuhn and Adel Tawil, the text by Sebastian Wehlings and Tawil. Musically, the song moves in the area of pop music . Thilo Brandt and Sebastian Schmidt on drums, Frank Kernbach on bass, Marius Mahn on bass and guitar and Thimo Sander and Jan Terstegen on guitar were hired as additional instrumentalists.

Every line of the song relates to songs that were important in Tawil's life. Many passages are even direct translations of English-language song titles. Sometimes musical allusions can also be heard, for example when he refers to the hit Come as You Are by Nirvana , the guitar riff from it can also be heard in the background . A reference to Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine does not refer to the lyrics of the song, but to the cover of the single. After an allusion to From the Same Star by Ich + Ich , a purely musical allusion to the piece Codo… düse im Sauseschritt by the group DÖF , in which his Ich + Ich partner Annette Humpe and her sister Inga were members. In the third verse, Adel refers solely to songs and facts from his own career.

In an interview with the Berliner Morgenpost , Tawil explained some of the allusions in which relationship he had with them: “ Maria was walking through a thorn forest, for example, from my time in the church choir, where I sang solo for the first time. Kurt Cobain changed everything for me. That was the first band whose songs I covered in school. It was through Nirvana and Rage Against The Machine that I realized in the first place that singing can also be cool. Foreign to Advanced Chemistry's own country came at a time when I was looking for an identity myself. I felt like a German, but somehow I realized that I was different. That was very moving for me because I realized that I am not the only one. That I can be proud of who I am. "

Music video

The music video for Lieder premiered on October 11, 2013. In the video, Tawil can be seen in a record shop, where he looks at various vinyl records and sings the song. While he looks at the records, the cover pictures of the records always change to the cover of the title, the passage of which he is singing about at that moment. If he doesn't have a record in his hand, the design of his T-shirt changes to the artist he is singing about. In between, scenes shot with Blue-Box can be seen again and again . Here you can see nobility in the foreground walking through Toronto . The music video was shot in Berlin . The total length is 3:47 minutes. Directed by Alexey Terehoff, it was produced by Massuda Kassem and Frederik Poppenk.
