(2018)

The second studio album by German pop singer Adel Tawil is so beautifully different .

Creation and artwork

All pieces on the album were written by Adel Tawil in collaboration with various co-authors. Most of the titles were created in collaboration with Andreas Herbig, Patrick Salmy and Mario Wesser, the three each co-wrote seven tracks on the album. He also wrote four songs each with Sera Finale and Ali Zuckowski , and three each with the FNSHRS producer team. (consisting of: Paul NZA , Marek Pompetzki and Cecil Remmler ), Robin Grubert and Simon Triebel . He wrote two songs with Johannes Arzberger, Nicolas Rebscher and Ricardo Munoz Repko, apart from that there are other isolated authors. With one exception, the regular album edition was mixed and produced under the direction of Herbig and Salmy in the Hamburg Boogie Park Studios; Yvan Peacemaker was at their side as producer on one song. The song Remembering was published by the FNSHRS. produced. The mastering was also done by Herbig and Salmy in the Boogie Park Studios, as well as by Sascha Bühren in the TrueBusyness Studios in Berlin . So nicely different was released under the music labels Island Records and Polydor and distributed by Universal Music Publishing .

On the cover of the album you can see Tawil next to the artist name and song title. This is a collage of the cover pictures of all singles released in advance. Mainly Tawil's upper body can be seen standing against a black background (cover picture for the single Is there someone ). Above that, the shadows of two other poses can be seen, which are placed over Tawil. One pose shows Tawil leaving the picture (cover picture for the single Bis hier and weiter ). The other shadow shows him with his hand in front of his face (cover picture for the single God stand by me ).

Publication and promotion

The first publication of so beautiful otherwise on April 21, 2017 Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The album consists of 14 new studio recordings and is available on CD, download and vinyl . A “Deluxe Edition” was published at the same time. This includes five more studio recordings and an acoustic version of the song Bis hier und weiter, which was already on the album .

In order to promote the album, there followed, among other things, a joint live appearance in prime time with Bis hier und noch weiter von Tawil, KC Rebell and Summer Cem during the Echo Awards 2017 . Before the actual start of the song Tawil began without music in the background at the beginning of the chorus to God help me , in which he again gave the following lines in a sort of appeal: "I have the Bible not read've the Koran not at the same time, but when I see all of this, God help me. Never heard the Torah , had no time for the Buddha . I just want to understand it, God help me ... God, God help me. "With the single Is there somebody followed, among other things, live appearances during prime time at Schlag den Star on ProSieben , at the ESC countdown 2017 in the first and during the RTL - Show Mensch Gottschalk - That moves Germany , as well as in the ZDF culture magazine aspects . Other appearances followed, such as on the NDR Talk Show . ProSieben advertised its campaign for Green Seven 2017 - Save the Ice with the title Eine Welt einer Heimat . A tour is also planned for the end of the year.

background information

At the beginning of the album production, Tawil planned to seek inspiration in the metropolises around Los Angeles and New York City . Such cities would always give you good energy, at least initially. They have this American “just do it” spirit and all the people you meet there have this certain kind of activism. Later he realized that it could get on your nerves and somehow got stuck. After a short perplexity, he remembered an invitation from a friend who lives in Hawaii and whom he was visiting. Together with him he could start working on the album undisturbed. Tawil himself described the situation on site as follows:

"There is nothing. Nothing at all. It has a few solar cells on the roof to supply itself with electricity and a self-made shower. Every now and then a gas bottle. Otherwise there is nothing. That’s it. When I drove over the mountain on the back of which he lives, everything was suddenly quiet. There was only noise on the radio. I couldn't receive any more channels and my cell phone was dead. Suddenly everything was gone. I was cut off from all communication. I could no longer reach anyone and no one could reach me. Then I knew: it was the best decision of my life. Now I can work. "

- Tawil, 2017

Before completing So beautifully different , Tawil wanted to treat himself to a little vacation in Egypt. A tragic accident occurred when his head hit the bottom of the pool while jumping into a swimming pool and suffered a quadruple fracture of the atlas (first cervical vertebra). After initial measures on site, Tawil was flown to Berlin and treated at the Berlin Charité . This event did not just leave Tawil without a trace, he himself said that it had also changed him a bit. He processed this experience on the album, among other things, and the result was the “Mut-Macher-Track” Up to here and beyond . In the song God stand me by , Tawil processes his feelings on the day of the attack on the Berlin Christmas market at the Memorial Church .

content

All the song lyrics on the album are in German and come from Adel Tawil, who wrote the pieces together with various co-authors. The song Eine Welt einer Heimat contains a French-language verse that is interpreted by Youssou N'Dour and an Arabic-language verse that is interpreted by Mohamed Mounir , as well as a refrain that is sung in English by Tawil himself. Musically, the songs move in the area of pop music . All pieces are new compositions. In addition to Mounir and N'Dour, the German rappers MoTrip , KC Rebell and Summer Cem can also be heard on the album. In addition to Tawil's main vocals, Zuckowski's voice can also be heard in the choirs. The instrumentalists include Juh-Der (electric guitar, piano and synthesizer), Andreas Herbig (bass, electric guitar, keyboard, percussion, piano, drums, string instruments and synthesizer), Yvan Jaquemet (bass, electric guitar, keyboard , Percussion, piano, drums and synthesizer), Ricardo Munoz (keyboard and piano), Nicolas Rebscher (electric guitar, percussion and string instruments), Patrick Salmy (bass, electric guitar, keyboard, percussion, piano, drums, string instruments and synthesizer ) and Thimo Sander (electric guitar).

According to Tawil and his record company Universal Music , the album is based on Tawil's biography. He dealt with his difficult beginnings in pop music, with the first success of The Boyz and the rapid fall into nothing. Later successes with Ich + Ich and private happiness. His breakthrough as a solo artist and the difficult time afterwards with private low points such as the divorce from his wife and a tragic accident during a vacation in Egypt . Tawil simply told everything that happened to him. He packed all the pain and the really big moments of happiness. Tawil wrote about what he saw in the world, in Europe and on the external borders of Europe, in Egypt. He wrote about what concerns him and probably a great many people. The crises and conflicts are drawing closer, the mood is becoming more aggressive. People are dissatisfied and no longer know in which direction things are developing. Sometimes you can feel a certain despair, in view of what is happening in the world and out of just as much desperation he wrote the title God help me . On the other hand, he also wrote a very hopeful and unifying song. It is called one world one home , because even if the situation in the world is not necessarily developing for the better, at the end of the day there is more hope, more humanity than destruction and more love than hate. In the end, Tawil wants to sing songs that you can feel in your stomach. Songs that are completely him.

Reviews

Markus Brandstetter from the German-language online magazine laut.de only awarded one of five stars and described the work in the following words: Tawil produced an extremely soulful record. It sounded similar to all other German “Gesindlichkeits-Songschreiber-Albums” of this dark era: after Schlager . Stars rhymes with distance and the aphorisms weigh tons. All of this is very inspiring, when you let the messages reach you, when you open your heart. “They tell you to carpen the Diem , to live life to the fullest. It could all be over by tomorrow, so let's dance rainbows, rainbows are so beautiful. Unicorns eh! ”Especially when one melts away and celebrates never-ending parties with unicorns, Tawil suddenly comes up with“ serious existentialist evaluations of existence ”and a possible metaphysical narrative. Everything with a lot of atmosphere, with keyboard areas, with oh-oh-ohs. Or with Yeah-oh-ohs, like I am what I am . The title alone promises great things and keeps it confidently. Later Youssou N'Dour is also a guest ( Eine Welt eine Heimat ), the whole thing should embody a mixture of dance floor and cosmopolitanism. Other themes on the record are: "Writing names in the sand, asking yourself why the world is the way it is, living life, learning from mistakes, going the way." Unfortunately, a beautiful, charismatic voice does not make an interesting one Album. Quintessential, contemporary German pop is so beautifully different : “Plain, pleasing, cuddly, well-constructed, well-produced, well-crafted, harmless, easily digestible, non-binding, obviously.” You can't get out of the yawning. In contrast, Adventure Land by Pur is a Dostoevsky novel.

Martin Smeets from the German-language online magazine plattentests.de awarded four out of ten points and described the album as follows: Tawil was not skimpy in terms of quantity . "Value for money?" ( English " price-performance ratio ") could Tawil before. Of course, one can now object that this song material has to be good at first. So beautifully different offers attack surface up to the horizon, because a lot of text modules seem as if they had been taken directly from the phrase pig just yesterday and that is precisely why they are only modules that address the emotions that these songs seek to convey in abundance stand in the way of every corner. Or because the pompously produced widescreen pop, which Tawil mostly performs, has become pretty much everything after all these years, but certainly not more interesting. You could go on like this, or simply repeat something that has long been known: Everything was thought up with the best of intentions, but too often not anymore. That’s exactly why one didn’t wait for songs like the eponymous So beautiful different , the I am how I am , which breakfasts off all common standards , or the generic remembering . Nevertheless, the album does not do it justice if one only rides around on the criticisms that have already become commonplace. And does not mention that you can honor a song like Eine Welt a Heimat because Tawil does exactly what Böhmermann , for example, called Menschen Leben Tanzen Welt in his parody Menschen Leben Tanzen Welt and what you often want: take a stand and be relevant. And because he's at it, he'll do it again with God help me . Here, too, one could rightly mock a lot of pathos and the prominent reference to God, or simply be glad that there is no talk about people, life, dancing and the world . The question is, of course, whether that could be the claim and so, when looking at So beautifully different , disillusionment spreads, because only the northern lights can be sure of their destination and taste. Otherwise almost everything was sorted under “well meant”. And what that is, you know.

Charts and chart placements

So nicely different reached the top of the album charts in Germany and was able to assert itself there for one week, five weeks in the top 10 and 40 weeks in the charts. In Austria the album reached position five and stayed in the top 10 for three weeks and in the charts for 22 weeks. In Switzerland the album reached position three in the charts and was in the top 10 for five weeks and in the charts for 33 weeks. For Tawil it is the first number one success as a solo artist in Germany. He was already at the top of the German album charts twice with the duo Ich + Ich . It is his second chart success in all three countries, as well as his second top 10 success in Germany and Austria at the same time. To date, no Tawils album has placed higher in all three countries. In 2017, the album was placed 15 in the annual album charts in Germany, 63 in Austria and 29 in Switzerland.
