The Mahlweiher is a 1.3 hectare large pond in the area of Baden-Wuerttemberg community Bergatreute in the district of Ravensburg in Germany .

location

The privately owned pond is at an altitude of about 598  m above sea level. NHN and around two kilometers southeast of the Bergatreut town center, near the hamlets of Giras in the east and Talmühle in the south.

Hydrology

The pond has a catchment area of ​​around 19 hectares. With a size of 1.3 hectares, an average depth of 1.2 meters and a maximum depth of 2.4 meters, the lake volume is around 15,300 cubic meters.

The “Mahlweiher” is mainly fed by the Girasweiher to the north .
The "Mahlweiher" runs over the Mahlbach and Wolfegger Ach to Lake Constance and thus into the Rhine and ultimately into the North Sea .

ecology

Since 2000 Wolfegg (catchment area only) and Bergatreute have been involved in the action program for the rehabilitation of Upper Swabian lakes with the “Mahlweiher” . An important goal of this program is to reduce nutrient inputs in streams , lakes and ponds and thereby improve and maintain the condition of the water bodies.

15 percent of the pond's catchment area is used for forest and 75 percent for agriculture - 67% of which is grassland and 33% arable land.

Flora and fauna

In the pond, in which eel , perch, pike , carp, roach , rudd , tench and catfish are used, yellow pond rose , rough horn leaf , pine frond and white water lily grow .
