- Hanover / Germany : The Czech Republic becomes ice hockey world champion with a 3-2 win against Finland .
- Rome / Italy : The reigning electoral alliance olive tree with its top candidate Francesco Rutelli missed in the parliamentary elections clearly the absolute majority of seats in the Chamber of Deputies . The alliance Casa delle Libertà ( German House of Freedoms ), whose strongest force is the Forza Italia party under Silvio Berlusconi , will provide the next President of the Council of Ministers .

- Karlsruhe / Germany : Although the Red Army Faction (RAF) officially disbanded in 1998, the Attorney General admits that the terrorist group could still be active. Saliva residues, which were secured in Duisburg in 1999 after an attack on a money transporter, refer, according to a spokeswoman for the legal profession, to RAF members Daniela Klette and Ernst-Volker Staub .
