Marga (German: Marga , Hungarian: Márga ) is a municipality in the Caraș-Severin district , in the Banat region , in south-western Romania . The village of Vama Marga also belongs to the municipality of Marga .

Geographical location

Marga is located in the northeast of the Caraş-Severin district, halfway between Caransebeş and Hațeg , in the Bistra Valley.

history

Over the centuries, different spellings of the place name appeared: 1470 Marga , 1808 Marga , 1888 Márga , 1913 Márga , 19019 Marga .

Around the year 100 to 120, the Romans built Fort Margum in the area of ​​today's Marga. The village was first mentioned in a document in 1470, when Jakob de Marga was the commandant of the Severin fortress.

On the Josephine land survey of 1717, Marga is uninhabited. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) the village was part of the Habsburg crown domain Temescher Banat .

In 1757 the village had 50 houses and a church, in 1774 there were already 180 houses. During the Russo-Austrian Turkish War of 1736–1739, Marga was burned down by General Lentulus' army .

The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three , whereby Marga fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
