At the XXIV Summer Olympics in Seoul in 1988 , twelve boxing competitions were held. The venue was the Jamsil Sports Hall, which is part of the Seoul Sports Complex in the Songpa-gu district. The Olympic boxing tournament was overshadowed by scandals. After Aleksandar Christow's fight against Byun Jung-il, the South Korean supervisors beat up the referee. Byun Jung-il also protested with a sit-in strike that lasted over an hour in the ring. After a clear wrong decision, after the fight between Park Si-hun and Roy Jones jr. awarded the gold medal to the clearly inferior Park Si-hun. At least eight fraud judgments were later found.
