At the VI. At the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo , six competitions were held in Nordic skiing . This was also the 19th Nordic World Ski Championships . In addition to Olympic medals, world championship medals were also awarded. The only exception was the Nordic Combined, in which there were only Olympic medals. The venue was the Holmenkollbakken on Oslo's local mountain, Holmenkollen . For the first time there was a cross-country skiing competition for women. There was also an innovation in Nordic Combined: For the first time, ski jumping was held and the second discipline was cross-country skiing.
The Nordic competitions were shaped more than ever by the superiority of Scandinavian athletes . Norwegians and Finns shared the six gold medals. There were two bronze medals left for Sweden . Only the two German ski jumpers Toni Brutscher (4th place) and Sepp Weiler (8th place) were among the top eight as non-Scandinavians. However, these Olympics should be the last with this Scandinavian dominance. At the following World Cup in 1954 in Falun , Sweden , the Soviet Union also entered the international stage in winter sports and was involved from then on.

The race was held under extremely difficult conditions: damp snow, temperature differences, inclines and difficult descents. The Finns had made excellent provisions for the race. Already at 4 a.m. they pulled a truck to the track area, unloaded 300 pairs of skis and ski poles, as well as radios, food of all kinds, ovens and mountains of wax. At the race itself there were 50,000 spectators in the stadium, the same number were estimated along the route. The Finn Mononen started first, the interval was one minute. Hakulinen crossed the finish line with 3:33:33 and, because of his winning time, they found a connection with the many three-pointers, because this run was his third marathon race and his third victory. Although Nils Karlsson was beaten in sixth, he received minutes of applause, because he had won the Vasa race five times in a row, from 1945 to 1951 .
4 × 10 km relay
Date: February 23, 1952, 12:00 p.m.
13 relays at the start, 12 of them in the valuation.
The Finns were ahead from start to finish, Hasu had a ten-second lead two hundred meters after the start. Behind them Sweden and Norway fought for silver, with Sweden leading until the second handover, but then Norway pulling away. Mäkelä (34:06) had the best part times ahead of Brenden (34:37) and Hassu (35:01). A helicopter circled around the track and constantly radioed the positions of the runners into the stadium. The message was always the same: "Finland increases the lead".

The Austrian Lizzy Kladensky could not finish the race and had to give up half of the race (placed in 10th place). She still suffered from a fall while training and developed headaches while running. The fears regarding aesthetics were not fulfilled: the women were not a "sad" sight, they were surprisingly fresh at the finish and even smiled.

The Austrian Josef Bradl , who was one of the favorites, fell in the first round at 50.5 m and did not compete in the second. One of the biggest surprises were the three German jumpers among the top ten. Central Europe's top class had caught up with the Norwegian ones, the difference was no longer so great - except that they were unmatched in width, because they had twenty jumpers in the format of an Arnfinn Bergmann. With regard to the Austrians, it was found that they were simply rated too highly at home, while they could not keep up internationally. The ceremony before the ski jump was unusual: King Haakon VII walked over the take-off table, stopped in the middle, took off his hat and greeted the people. The audience then sang the national anthem.
