Competition description
The individual competition is the oldest discipline in biathlon and is therefore also considered a "classic". The total of 20 km was spread over five equally long running laps, after the first four the athletes had to hit five targets at the shooting range in the order lying-standing-lying-standing. Unlike in the other disciplines, the athletes received a penalty of one minute for each target not hit. The winner was whoever had the fastest overall time at the finish.
Total ascent: 705 m, maximum ascent: 28 m, difference in altitude: 57 m
89 participants from 31 countries, including 87 in the rating.
