The Campolongo (sometimes Campolongo saddle ; Italian Passo di Campolongo or Campolungo ; gadertalisch- Ladin Ju de Ćiaulunch , buchensteinisch-Ladin Jou de Ciaulonch ) is a pass in the Dolomites between the Sella massif and the Fanes group in Italy . It creates the link between Corvara ( Gadertal , South Tyrol ) and Arabba ( Buchenstein , Veneto ).
location
The Campolongo Pass is a wide saddle between the Sella in the west and the Fanes group in the east, which also exceeds 3,000 m. However, the high peaks of the Fanes group are not visible from the pass, as the alpine plateaus are in front of the Pralongià .
With a height of 1875 m slm of Campolongopass the lowest of the four passes is around the Sella ( Sella , Pordoijoch , Campo Longo saddle and Gardena Pass ).
history
The pass road was laid out between 1898 and 1901. In the pre-war period it had no particular tourist significance; the panorama does not reach the attractiveness of the other passes on the Sella group. In the second half of the 20th century, a network of hiking trails was expanded, which is now also used by mountain bikers in summer . To the west of the pass in the area of the Crep de Mont ( 2198 m ) and the Bec des Roces ( 2187 m ) several lifts have been built.
The closed construction of the pass with hotel and apartment complexes only took place with the focus of tourism on winter sports and connection to the greater Dolomiti Superski area .
Tourist infrastructure and sports
The hiking routes include descents through the Campolungo meadows to Corvara and Arabba as well as ascents into the Sella (Bec de Roces, Crep de Mont and Vallon hut); Lift rides can shorten or replace these ascents. From the Vallonhütte ( 2488 m ), tours can be undertaken via via ferratas to Piz Boè , the highest rock peak in the Sella group at 3152 m . There are connections to the Boè-Seekofel ( 2908 m ) and to the Dolomites high path no. 2. There are several ski runs in the Bec de Roses area.
Another hiking and skiing area is located on the Pralongià , on which there was a first mountain hut as early as 1932.
For cyclists, the pass is part of the four-pass tour around the Sella. In winter it is often crossed on skis as part of the popular Sella Ronda .
