Puymirol ( Occitan Puègmiròl ) is a French municipality with 930 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). Puymirol is located in the arrondissement of Agen and belongs to the canton Le Sud-Est Agenais (until 2015: canton Puymirol ). The inhabitants are called Puymirolais .
geography
Puymirol is about 14 kilometers east-southeast of Agen on the Séoune . Puymirol is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Sauvetat-de-Savères and Saint-Martin-de-Beauville in the north, Tayrac in the northeast, Perville in the east, Saint-Urcisse in the south and southeast, Saint-Romain-le-Noble in the south, Saint -Pierre-de-Clairac in the west and south-west and Saint-Caprais-de-Lerm in the north-west.
history
The bastide was founded in 1246.
On June 7, 1944, eleven suspected resistance fighters, including those from Puymirol, were murdered by soldiers from SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 4 ("Der Führer") in the neighboring community .
