Layrac Town Hall

Layrac is a municipality with 3623 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine in France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Agen and is part of the canton of Le Sud-Est Agenais . The inhabitants are called Layracais (es) .

geography

Layrac is located on the lower reaches of the Gers , which flows into the Garonne here . Layrac is surrounded by the neighboring communities Boé in the north and northwest, Sauveterre-Saint-Denis in the northeast, Caudecoste in the east, Fals in the southeast, Astaffort in the south, Marmont-Pachas in the southwest and Moirax in the west.

The A62 autoroute and the national route 21 run through the municipality .

history

Archaeological finds show settlement in the Bronze and Iron Ages. Several estates existed during the Gallo-Roman era. The village of Goulens in today's municipality was demonstrably a foundation of the Visigoths. In 1071 a monastery was founded by Hunald, the Viscount of the Brulhois. With that, the place slowly blossomed.
