Robert Rintje Ritsma (born April 13, 1970 in Lemmer ) is a former Dutch speed skater . With four titles in the all- around world championships , he is one of the most successful speed skaters in history.

Career

Ritsma won his first title at the all- around world championships in Baselga di Pinè in 1995 . He defended him in 1996 in Inzell. Further titles followed in 1999 in Hamar and 2001 in Budapest . In 1998 and 2003 he won the silver medal and the bronze medal in 1993, 1994 and 2000.

At the 1997 World Single Distance Championship, Ritsma won gold over 1,500 and 5,000 meters and silver over 10,000 meters.

In addition, Ritsma was six times all- around European champion (1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000).

At the Olympic Games , however, he could not win any titles, but two silver medals and four bronze medals.

In 1999 , Ritsma received the Oscar Mathisen Memorial Trophy . He ended his career in September 2008.

Ritsma led the nobility calendar for 1125 days.
