Rudé Právo Cup
The tournament for the Cup of Rudé Právo (Czech: Pohár Rudého práva ) was an ice hockey tournament of the best European national ice hockey teams held in 1977, 1978 and 1979 as well as 1981/82 and 1982/83 . A representative from the United States participated in the first year of the event . The competition was for the prize of the Czech daily newspaper of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia , Rudé právo . The prize was a glass challenge cup. All five events were won by the team from the Soviet Union, which only lost a single game in the first year against the team from the ČSSR, which in turn always came second.

1977
The first tournament for the Rudé Právo Cup was held in 1977 from September 17th to 21st in Prague in the Czech Republic . The games were at least partially broadcast on Czech television . In addition to the teams of the Soviet Union and the ČSSR, the Cincinnati Stingers from the North American WHA took part.
The Cincinnati Stingers coach Jacques Demers later said, “The tournament would have been a waste of time for his team. After just six days of training camp, the competition was too great. ”After the games in Prague, the Stingers played three games in Finland, which Demers thought were more useful:“ The team should have gone to Finland first and then see if you were in rudé Právo Cup could exist. "
