The tour of the South African national cricket team to India in the 1996/97 season took place from November 20 to December 14, 1996. The international cricket tour was part of the 1996/97 international cricket season and included three tests and an ODI . India won the Test Series 2–1 and the ODI Series 1–0.

prehistory

Both teams previously played a three-nation tournament in India with Australia . The last meeting of the two teams on a tour took place in the 1992/93 season in South Africa .
