politics

Sa Kaeo is the home province of Sanoh Thienthong , a politician who has been active and influential at the national level since the 1970s. He leads a group of members of parliament who change parties from election to election depending on who promises them the most benefits. It is called the "Wang Nam Yen Group" after Sanoh's home district. In 2004 it was counted around 70 MPs. In Sa Kaeo Province, the party that Sanoh supports always wins all constituencies. Until 1996 this was the Chart Thai Party , then the New Hope Party , after 2000 the Thai Rak Thai Party , 2006 the Pracharaj Party and since 2011 the Pheu Thai Party . In the 1990s, Sanoh and the Wang Nam Yen Group were considered the kingmakers of Thai politics. Since 1996, Sa Kaeo’s three seats in parliament have been occupied by members of the Thienthong family, such as Sanoh's brother Witthaya, his nephew Thanit, his niece Trinuch and his son Sorawong. Sanoh's sister Kwanruan was also the senator for Sa Kaeo, and his wife Uraiwan was culture and labor minister several times between 2002 and 2008. Because of this dominance, Sanoh is considered the province's political "godfather".
