Tarentaise is a French municipality with 475 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Étienne in the canton of Le Pilat (until 2015: canton of Saint-Genest-Malifaux ).

Tarentaise is located about 10 kilometers southeast of Saint-Étienne in the historic Forez landscape on the Furan River . Tarentaise is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Étienne in the north and north-west, Le Bessat in the east and north-east, Thélis-la-Combe in the south-east, La Versanne in the south and Saint-Genest-Malifaux in the west.
