Thomery is a French commune with 3467 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Seine-et-Marne department of the Île-de-France region . It belongs to the canton of Montereau-Fault-Yonne in the Arrondissement of Fontainebleau .

Thomery consists of By , a former independent municipality, and the hamlets of Monforts and Effondré.
Neighboring municipalities are Samoreau in the north-west, Féricy and Machault in the north and north-east , Avon and Fontainebleau in the west, Veneux-les-Sablons and Champagne-sur-Seine in the east and south-west .
history
Thomery had been a manse of the Saint-Denis de la Chartre priory in Paris since the 11th century .
In the 19th century Thomery became known for its special cultivation of table grapes , which brought great prosperity to the place until the beginning of the 19th century.

economy
For a long time Thomery was shaped by viticulture . Between the two world wars, a rolling bearing factory was established that had up to 700 employees. In 1964 it was taken over by the Swedish group SKF , whose part of the company that was sold still employs around 100 people in the village.
Thomery is on the Paris – Marseille railway line .
