The final contested Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge against Byron Black and Grant Connell . The "Woodies" won in four sets and were able to defend their title. This was their fourth joint triumph at the Wimbledon Championships (after 1993, 1994 and 1995 ) and their sixth joint Grand Slam title overall.
