Zăvoi (German: Savoi , Hungarian: Závoly ) is a municipality in the Caraș-Severin district , in the Banat region , in southwest Romania . The municipality of Zăvoi also includes the villages 23 August , Măgura , Măru , Poiana Mărului , Valea Bistrei and Voislova .
Geographical location
Zăvoi is located in the Bistra Valley, on the DN68 Caransebeş - Hațeg national road , four km east of Oțelu Roşu and 22 km southwest of Caransebeş.

Over the centuries different spellings of the place name appeared: 1430 Zaboly , 1444 Zawoy , 1579 Also-Zavoy and Felső-Zawoy , 1602 Zavoi , 1690–1700 Zavoy , 1783 Szavoj , 1808 Szavoj , Savoja , 1888 Zavoi , Savoj , Szávoj , 1913 Závoly 1919 Zăvoiu , Zavoj , Zăvoi .
The ruins of the Roman fort Acmonia have been excavated near Zăvoi . The first written mention of the village comes from the year 1430. Savoi is registered on the Josephine land survey of 1717 . After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) the village was part of the Habsburg crown domain Temescher Banat .
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the triple division of the Banat , whereby Zăvoi fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
