The Wuppertal residential district Zoo is one of seven districts of the municipality Elberfeld-West .

geography

The 2.32 km² residential area is bordered in the west by the Wupper , in the north by the Wupper and the Düsseldorf – Elberfeld railway line , in the south by the state road 418 in the lower Rutenbeck Bachtal . The eastern border to the residential area Friedrichsberg runs over the Kiesberg and the Königshöhe .

The residential development is concentrated in two villa districts, the Wuppertal Zoo district and the Waldesruh settlement on the Boltenberg, as well as the Heimatplan settlement , which was built in 1929/30 as a non-profit housing estate on the hillside east of the zoo district . The southern and eastern part of the residential quarter is taken up by the recreational forest in the Burgholz state forest and the Königshöhe with the Von-der-Heydt summer house . The Von-der-Heydt Tower is located on the Kiesberg . The route of the Burgholzbahn crosses the residential area and also runs through the Wuppertal Zoo , which is located in the zoo district south of the stadium at the zoo . Another sports facility would be the Bayer Sports Hall Downstairs in front of the Steeg , the training facility for the SV Bayer Wuppertal team . The only school (elementary school) is on Donarstrasse.

The original locations and places to live in the quarter include Boltenberg , Am Elend , Elendstal , Kaisersbusch , In den Hülsen , Pickartsberg , Unter vorm Steeg and Vollmerhausen . Am Kothen , Oben vorm Steeg and Kaisersbusch have risen in the zoo and the adjacent villa area . The pasture was removed for the Düsseldorf – Elberfeld railway line.

The former stop at Boltenberg

The residential area is well connected to public transport via the Zoo station and the Wuppertal suspension railway.

The single-track disused railway line " Cronenberger Samba " crossed the residential area. The Wuppertal-Boltenberg stop, which was around 1.1 kilometers as the crow flies from the town of Boltenberg , was a popular starting point for walks in the Burgholz state forest. In addition, the stadium was easy to reach from here, at times when the Wuppertal sports club WSV played in the 1st Bundesliga, the trains were extended to match days. The stop is named after the villa district south of Sonnborn, but it also opens up the zoo district - to which the stop is even closer.

It was subsequently established in 1905 under the name Elberfeld-Boltenberg . It was renamed Boltenberg in 1930 and Wuppertal-Boltenberg in 1950 . In 1988 the route was closed, the route was converted into a cycling and hiking trail as part of the 2006 region .
