British Academy Video Games Awards

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The British Academy Video Games Awards , also known as BAFTA Video Games Awards , are an annual awards event for computer games organized by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) .

description

The British Academy Video Games Awards originated in 2003 when BAFTA decided to split up the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards , which had been awarding computer games and other forms of multimedia entertainment since 1998. The first two awards took place in February 2004 and March 2005. In 2006, the BAFTA upgraded the event as “one of the most important contemporary art forms” to the third arm alongside the film and TV prize and moved it to October. There were no awards ceremonies in 2008 because the date was postponed from October to March of the following year. Previously, in 2007 the jury was forced to test games that had not yet been completed, and one of the candidates was ultimately no longer on the market in the same year. With the new date, the publication window in which a game must appear for a candidacy has been restricted more precisely. In addition, confusion with the Golden Joystick Awards taking place during the same period should be avoided. Until 2013, the event was only for invited guests, with the tenth award ceremony in 2014, it was opened to the public for the first time.
