With HP2 , BMW designates a sporty motorcycle series that was offered with a boxer engine from 2005 to 2010 . "HP" represents H igh P erformance and "2" for the number of cylinders.

Three models were offered in the series:

  • BMW HP2 Enduro (2005–2006) with tubular space frame , similar to the rally machines from HPN , conventional upside-down fork and air suspension strut. The low dry weight of 179 kg for a motorcycle in this performance class and the low center of gravity result in good off-road handling characteristics. The air / oil-cooled two-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine has a displacement of 1,170 cm³ and has an output of approx. 77 kW (105 hp) and a maximum torque of 115 Nm. The power is transmitted, as is typical of the brand, with a single-disc dry clutch to a 6-speed gearbox to the torque-supported final drive ( cardan / Paralever ). In terms of equipment, some of the usual BMW features have been omitted: anti-lock braking system, main stand, passenger footrests and case system are not available on this model. There is a built-in spirit level to balance the fully adjustable chassis. Heated grips and 17 " Supermoto spoke wheels for road tiresare optionally available.
  • The BMW HP2 Megamoto (2006–2008) is based on the Enduro, but as a Supermoto it is clearly road-oriented. The main differences to the Enduro are: 17 "aluminum wheels, shortened suspension travel, conventional shock absorber, double-disc brake system (front) and a different visual appearance.
  • The BMW HP2 Sport (2007-2010) is a Race replica , based on the factory endurance racing machines from 2007. This factory racer in turn are based on the R 1200 S . The main difference to the R 1200 S, apart from the external appearance, is the heavily revised and more powerful boxer engine with two overhead camshafts per cylinder head ( DOHC ) and four radially arranged valves, which develops 98 kW (133 hp). What is unusual is that each camshaft controls one intake and one exhaust valve. Consistent lightweight construction made it possible to reduce the curb weight to 206 kg (ready to drive). The HP2 Sport u. a. a self-supporting rear made of carbon , so it has no separate rear frame.
