The Bavarian Cup (officially Toto Cup , named after the main sponsor Lotto Bayern ) is the football association cup of the Bavarian Football Association (BFV). For men, the Toto Cup has been held annually since 1998. The winner will receive one of the two starting places of the BFV for the DFB-Pokal .
In the women's competition (since 2002; called BFV-Pokal , also DFB-Pokal at state level ), the winner qualifies for the women's DFB-Pokal .
Modus 1946 to 1954
The first two competitions for the Bayern Cup were organized by the Bavarian State Sports Association . The first trophy after the war was a modest wooden plate. From 1948 the Bavarian Football Association, founded in June 1946, took on the role of organizer. From the start, only teams from the amateur leagues were eligible to participate, ie in 1946, for example, it was still the second-class national league at the time. In the 1950/51 season, clubs with contract players were also allowed to participate. From 1954, two years after the DFB Cup was resumed, the BFV Cup was no longer held. For participation in the first main round of the DFB Cup, loose qualifying games were later played in regional cup competitions, and an association cup was only introduced again in 1997/98.

Current mode
Since the 2009/10 season, the field of 64 teams has been composed as follows: In principle, second teams and clubs from the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga are not eligible to participate . All Bavarian third and regional league teams are automatically placed for the first main round, as are the 24 district cup winners. All Bayern and regional league teams are seeded for the first qualifying round, in which the remaining participants for the first main round are determined. The BFV Cup will be played in six knockout rounds .
There are regional lottery pots in the first two main rounds and in the round of 16. The 24 district cup winners are allowed to choose their opponent themselves from their pots - in a previously drawn order. The team in the lower class automatically enjoys home rights; in the event of a tie, the club drawn first has home rights - also in the final. In the event of a tie after 90 minutes, the penalty shoot-out takes place automatically .
Until 2007, second teams were allowed. Since the BFV, together with the Lower Saxony Football Association and the Football and Athletics Association of Westphalia, is one of the three largest state associations, it can allocate two starting places for the DFB Cup every year instead of just one. Until the 2009/10 season, the defeated finalist was awarded this second place. From 2010 to 2012 the defeated finalist played the second place on the grid against the winner of the game for 3rd place, and since 2013 the second place on the grid has gone to the champions of the Regionalliga Bayern .
Finals
The respective league membership is listed in the brackets after the football club mentioned:
- 3L: 3rd division (third class since 2008).
- RL: Regionalliga Süd (third class from 1994 to 2008, fourth class from 2008 to 2012), Regionalliga Bayern (fourth class since 2012).
- OL: Bayernliga (fourth class from 1994 to 2008, fifth class since 2008).
- LL: Landesliga Bayern (fifth class from 1994 to 2008, sixth class since 2008).
The clubs marked in bold have qualified for the DFB Cup.
