Caumont-sur-Garonne is a commune in southwestern France with 726 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) and is located in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (2016: Aquitaine ).

The municipality is located on the Garonne between Tonneins and Marmande . It is built by the towns of Varennes, Mirannes, Maurignac, Verduts, Picanne, Saint-Martin and Cap du Bosc.

The community name comes from the Latin expression mons calvus , which means bald mountain .

In Occitan the name is Caumont de Garòna .

history

The village was a fief of the De Caumont family .

During the time of the National Convention (1792-1795) the community bore the revolutionary names Alout-sur-Garonne and Mont-Calvat .
