Allemans-du-Dropt ( Occitan Alamans de Drot ) is a place and a multi hamlets and farmsteads southern French community with 493 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

The place Allemans-du-Dropt is located on the south bank of the Dropt in Agenais about 67 kilometers northwest of Agen and a good 22 kilometers northeast of Marmande at an altitude of about 40 m above sea level. d. M. The climate is temperate and is largely influenced by the Atlantic ; Rain falls throughout the year.

The phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the loss of jobs due to the mechanization of agriculture led to a continuous population decline in the first half of the 20th century, which has only come to a standstill in recent years.

For centuries, the residents of the community lived on the produce of their fields and gardens, self-sufficient ; cattle breeding and viticulture were also carried out. Craftsmen, small traders and service providers settled in the village. Since the 1960s, some of the vacant houses, but also new buildings, have been used as holiday apartments ( gîtes ) .
history
The place name is commonly traced back to the Germanic tribe of the Alemanni , who lived in the 4th / 5th centuries. Century occupied the region.
After the marriage between Eleanor of Aquitaine and Heinrich Plantagenet (1152), the area belonged to the Angevin Empire , but remained controversial between England and France during the Hundred Years War (1337-1453), and was affected by the turmoil of the Huguenot Wars (1562-1598) and the peasant revolts ( jacqueria ) not spared.
Attractions
- The origins of the Saint-Eutrope church may date back to the 10th century or even further. The current building still has a Romanesque apse ; however, the nave was renewed in the 15th century and a side aisle was added on the north side. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the church was redesigned again - the bell tower only dates from the 1840s. The nave is spanned by a slightly vaulted wooden ceiling on the outside. The building was classified as a Monument Historique in 1994 . On the walls there is a cycle of frescoes from around 1600 with scenes of the resurrection , hell, etc. This was placed under special protection in 1960.
- Only the remainder of a round tower has been preserved from the town's former castle (château) . This was classified as a Monument Historique in 1984 .
- The roof of the market hall, which dates back to the 16th century, rests on a dozen wooden supports.
- A second market hall (halle aux prunes) was built after the fire of an older one in 1856. Its roof structure rests on round stone pillars.
- A bridge from the 18th century crosses the Dropt.
- A wash house ( lavoir ) from the 19th century is on the outskirts.
