history

Throughout its history Peyrière belonged to a number of significant local manorial families . In 1266 the seigneur was a certain Guiscard, husband of Guillemine de Beauville and son of Nompar de Caumont. In the 16th century the land belonged to Imbert de Montesquiou before it passed to his family through his daughter's marriage to François de Gironde. This handed over the property to Charles de Dijon, whose descendants kept it until the 17th century. At the beginning of the 18th century, the de Mornier family took over the manor and added Peyrière to the Baronate of Seyches. Eventually it came into the hands of the Pontiac family in 1731.

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 480 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to 210 inhabitants with brief recovery phases by the 1950s, before a phase of growth began that continues to this day .

  • Parish Church of Saint-Pierre. The cemetery surrounds the parish church, which is dedicated to the Apostle Peter and is called Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens . It dates from the 11th or 12th century, as can be seen from the arched window opening. It is on the right hand side in the wall to the staircase. It was walled up for a long time and only reappeared during the restoration of the bell tower in the 20th century. The interior of the church is characterized by great objectivity. It is illuminated through window openings without a church window. The flat vaults of the main and side aisles are clad with paneling with a rounded bar pattern . The altar stands out against the white floor of the choir , which is separated by a triumphal arch that rests on two wooden pillars . On the left is the white stone pulpit . The aisle is separated from the main nave by wooden pillars. it is dedicated to the Virgin Mary . The side altar is dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes .
  • In 1887 the bell tower was added to the church. Its construction was financed by a donation from Marie Angeline Beausoleil, who in memory of her generosity the square in front of the Mairie was renamed after her. The tower is built on the porch of the church. A staircase with several runs gives access to a terrace that serves as a viewing platform at a height of 26 meters. An orientation board has been installed and panoramic binoculars are available to visitors. The top of the tower is crowned by a statue of the Heart of Jesus . The tower houses two bells from 1889 and 1897. European funding made it possible to renovate the bell tower in 2004.
