Château-Chinon (Campagne) is a French commune of 548 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville) and the canton of Château-Chinon (Ville) .

Peculiarity of the place name

The community of Château-Chinon, which existed until the French Revolution , was divided into two communities after the revolution: Château-Chinon Intra-Muros and Château-Chinon Extra-Muros, which later became Château-Chinon (Ville) and Château-Chinon (Campagne) renamed. The terms "(Ville)" or "(Campagne)" are therefore an official part of the place names.

Another peculiarity is that until 2008 there was officially (i.e. at the Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques ) no space between “Château-Chinon” and the explanatory suffix, i. H. the municipalities "Château-Chinon (Ville)" and "Château-Chinon (Campagne)" were called. However, this peculiarity was not respected in daily use and has been removed since 2009.
