Fairly OddParents - The Fairly OddParents ( English title The Fairly OddParents ) is a cartoon series that from the American US on cartoons specialized channels Nickelodeon and Viacom led by Butch Hartman was produced. Like Charles Perrault's Cinderella , it is about good fairies who stand by children in distressed circumstances.
action
The 10-year-old Timmy Turner lives with his parents in the fictional, northern California town of Dimmsdale. His parents are very careless about their upbringing and often push Timmy to the sadistic babysitter Vicky . Timmy is bullied almost continuously at school too. That is why the elves Cosmo and Wanda were put at his side as magic sponsors, because every child who has a particularly difficult time gets such helping elves, from whom they can make a wish at any time. Timmy usually uses his wishes to solve everyday problems or simply to make fixed ideas come true. However, the damage it causes is often greater than the hoped-for benefit. Or there are complications that Timmy hadn't considered beforehand. Therefore, at the end of many stories, he wishes that everything would be as it was before. This is sometimes made difficult or even prevented by certain wish rules, which is why Timmy has to think of new ways.
Each child receives with the elves a rulebook Da Rules ( corruption of English. The rules , the rules'), which is what you may want and what is not. For example, the rules forbid granting wishes that would destroy sincere love and relationships. The rules also stipulate that a sponsored child may not tell anyone about the existence of his helping elves - if the child is violated, the elves will be immediately taken away and the memories of the magic godparents deleted. Elves can also be deducted if a child clearly indicates that they are now leading a happy life and / or that they no longer need their elves. Since Timmy tends to express excessive wishes, it happens in some episodes that Cosmo and Wanda are almost exposed.
The magic godparents also have to adhere to strict rules. Cosmo and Wanda, for example, are obliged to camouflage themselves as best as possible in every situation in the human world. For this purpose, they live in the form of two goldfish in Timmy's nursery. But they can change their shape at any time, whereby they are colored green (Cosmo) and pink (Wanda) so that they can always be distinguished by the viewer. The people in Timmy's world seem to miss the color code and the camouflage usually works perfectly. In addition, the elves are not allowed to tell their protégé which child has magic godparents. This also applies to former sponsored children. They are also not allowed to fulfill any other child's wishes except their own. Last but not least, the rule should be mentioned that helping elves are not allowed to use their powers to cheat in competitions and / or to manipulate games of chance (e.g. the lottery ).
Protagonists
People
Timmothy "Timmy" Tiberius Turner He is the 10-year-old protagonist of the series. He has brown hair, blue eyes and extremely oversized front teeth ("rabbit teeth"). He is wearing anthracite-colored pants, a pink t-shirt and a pink cap. Timmy is very inquisitive, adventurous and somewhat naive. In early episodes (especially in the pilot episodes) it is suggested several times that he suffers from ADHD and that he regularly goes to a therapist. Timmy is in 4th grade and does very poorly there. On the one hand this is due to his own laziness and lack of attention, on the other hand to his vengeful and choleric class teacher, Denzel Crocker . He also has to beware of his classmate Francis , a violent thug. His few friends include the exceptionally intelligent AJ and the penniless Chester . Timmy has a crush on the rich and spoiled Trixie Tang , but she keeps turning him down mercilessly. On the other hand, Timmy is followed by little Trudi (originally Tootie ), Vicky's little sister, who adores him. Timmy's hobbies include reading comics , video games , baseball, and television. From season 10, Timmy has to share his magic godparents with Chloe Carmichael , a pushy and over-the-top child from the neighborhood.
Timmy's parents are always only called Mom and Dad , their real first names are kept secret throughout the series. In older pilot episodes, you couldn't even see their faces. While Mom is a broker for the first three seasons (later she is only seen as a housewife), Dad works in a pencil factory. Both neglect their duties of supervision towards Timmy and swindles on the boy again and again, although they seem to love him. They obviously don't have real friends either. Their only regular contact with their neighbors, the Dinkelbergs , is characterized by competitiveness and hostility. Otherwise, Mom and Dad seem rather clumsy and downright underexposed: For example, they do not notice Vicky's malice (although it was suspected that they deliberately ignore it), nor do they notice when they annoy the bystanders. They also react surprisingly carefree to indifferent to the magical activities in their own house: For example, they let Timmy fob them off with the standard excuse “Internet!” When the parents ask the boy where he got his new, great toys.
Chester McBadbat He's in the same class with Timmy. Chester has blonde hair, green eyes, freckles and he wears braces . He lives alone with his father in a run-down trailer park . The McBadbats are very poor, which is why the boy has to run around in shabby clothes. His father always pulls a paper bag with peepholes over his face. Chester is ashamed of being the worst baseball player ever. He is supposed to represent the lower class in the series. However, Chester is very selfless and helpful. He keeps a possum as a pet.
AJ His full name is not revealed in the entire series. AJ is in the same class as Timmy. He is of African American descent and therefore dark-skinned. He is bald and wears a forget-me-not blue sleeveless tank top over a white shirt. AJ comes from a millionaire family and is above average intelligent. In his class he is the only one who is showered with A's by the class teacher. Still, he loves to play with Timmy and Chester, read comics and play console games.
Trixie Tang Goes in the same class as Timmy. Trixie has hip-length, pitch-black hair and only ever wears the finest clothes. She too comes from a millionaire family and is considered an It Girl at her school . At first glance Trixie looks snooty and bitchy, but in the course of the series it turns out that this is largely just a facade. Since her family is very rich and influential, she is a little shy of hanging out with "ordinary" children. That's why she keeps rejecting Timmy. The truth is, she really likes Timmy.
Chloe Carmichael She is a new protagonist in season 10 and is by far the most unpopular character among viewers and fans of the series, although she is officially a protagonist. She is 10 years old, has hip-length, light blonde hair and freckles. She prefers to wear a magenta hair scarf, a magenta, smooth skirt and magenta heeled sandals. Her sleeveless shirt is yellow with a white bow tie and a white wavy border pattern. Chloe is crazy and naive and sometimes overwhelms bystanders with her willingness to help, and she is prone to hysteria . Her character is very reminiscent of the well-known cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants , which is also found annoying by many series fans and criticized accordingly. Chloe was only intended as a kind of character counterpart to Timmy. Chloe is a new classmate of Timmy's and a neighbor with whom the boy has to share his elves because, according to Jean-Claude van Ramme, there are no longer enough elves who can work. Timmy is utterly appalled by this, reacts jealously and has difficulty getting used to the new circumstances over several episodes.
magical creatures
Elves The elves are magical, anthropomorphic beings, whose trademarks are two elliptical wings, a small, floating crown and a magic wand with a star-shaped tip. You keep floating up and down. The elves live in their own magical realm hidden from human eyes, the elven world. They live and live there as long as they do not look after a sponsored child. Some elves also work there and practice a wide variety of professions. The only human child who regularly visits the elven world is Timmy.
Cosmo Cosma Is the husband of Wanda , the father of Baby Poof and the magical godfather of Timmy. Cosmo has green hair and green eyes. He always wears black pants, a white shirt and a black tie. Cosmo is mentally clumsy and clumsy, and his spells do more harm than good to anyone. Often it is Cosmo's fault that Timmy's wishes backfire, if only because Cosmo rarely listens properly and he therefore misunderstands the wishes. Nevertheless, one has to admit Cosmo kind-heartedness: when Timmy, Wanda or Poof are in danger, he is selflessly on the spot and often voluntarily puts up with the beating.
Wanda Cosma (nee Farywinkle) She is Cosmo's wife, the mother of Baby Poof and the godmother of Timmy. Wanda has pink hair that sticks out over her forehead in the shape of an Elvi roll. Her eyes are pink too. She wears a yellow blouse and black pants. Wanda is the absolute opposite of Cosmo: She is strict, rule-conscious, disciplined and conscientious. However, she is prone to nagging at times. Wanda absolutely loves her Cosmo and is always very worried about Timmy, especially when the boy wants something from Cosmo. It is not uncommon for Wanda to iron out Timmy's or Cosmo's missteps afterwards. Wanda has a sister of the same age named Blonda .
Baby Poof Baby Poof is Cosmo and Wanda's child and is featured in the series as Timmy's step-brother (although genealogically, this is actually impossible). Poof is the first baby elf in 10,000 years. However, since he is still an infant, he has difficulty managing his magical powers. His utterances are limited to “Poof!” And “Timmy!”. In the beginning his magical powers are also strongly dependent on emotions : If Poof is in a good mood, real miracles happen; if, on the other hand, he is in a bad mood, disasters occur . When Baby Poof burps, it spreads thunderbolts .
Sparky Sparky is a magical dog who was introduced at the beginning of Season 9. His trademark are his blue nose, his orange-red ears and curls as well as his rod, which has the shape of a magic wand. In addition, he wears two tiny wings on his back and a floating crown on his head, completely in elven fashion. Timmy always wanted a dog. So he got Sparky from a magical pet store. The dog is house trained and can sing, speak and read. In addition, like a helping elf, he has magical powers. He is completely underexposed, clumsy and incompetent and his interference creates more problems than solutions. Next to Chloe Carmichael, Sparky is by far the most unpopular character on the show among series fans and was removed from the series shortly before the end of season 9.
Extraterrestrials
Mark Chang is a prince from the fictional planet Yugopotamia. His breed is characterized by gelatinous, bell-shaped bodies with tentacles. For some time now, Mark's royal parents have been trying to marry him to the aggressively dominant and vengeful Princess Allwut - for political reasons. But Mark doesn't want to and so he finally asks Timmy for help. Mark now lives in exile on the Dimmsdale landfill , and with the help of his extraterrestrial technology, Mark takes the form of a ten-year-old student. On Yugopotamia, Timmy is considered a hero.
Antagonists
People
Vicky Vicky is Timmy's babysitter and his worst enemy. She has fiery red hair and mostly wears a green t-shirt and black jeans. Vicky is 16, lives with her parents and her little sister Trudy and hates children more than anything. She mercilessly lets the little ones feel that, she beats up, tortures and even steals from the children. Appropriately, her character is characterized by malice , sadism and malicious glee, plus a tendency to choleric and vindictiveness . Why Vicky is so vicious, the series leaves largely open. Vague clues in the form of pictures of children in Vicky's house as well as remarks on her part suggest that she has always been angry. Vicky is one of the main reasons Timmy has helping elves in the first place. Only for this reason does Timmy not let Vicky blow up completely, because without Vicky Timmy's godparents would be taken away again. In contrast to adults, Vicky reveals her cleverness: She can both bewitch the bystanders and incite unpleasant people against her. Or just blackmail people.
Denzel Quincy Crocker He is Timmy's class teacher and is usually only called “Mr. Crocker ”. He wears a white shirt, black tie and black jeans, he wears glasses and is extremely unattractive. A characteristic of him is that his ears are on the neck. Crocker has a lot in common with Vicky: He also hates children and bullies them wherever he can. He prefers to "surprise" them with unannounced tests and give the students fives and sixes. The fact that he particularly bullies Timmy is because Timmy's magic godparents once belonged to Crocker, until Crocker broke the sacred rule of hiding the existence of his own magic godparents. Then Cosmo and Wanda were taken away by Crocker and Timmy transferred; Crocker's memory was erased. But he must have left a tiny bit, because Crocker's self-proclaimed mission in life is to scientifically prove the existence of helping elves. To do this, he uses all kinds of self-made tools that at least work until Timmy makes a wish. Crocker is unpopular with his colleagues because he regularly destroys school property with his inventions. In addition, most people think he is crazy because of his belief in helping elves.
Francis Francis is Timmy's classmate, truant , thug, and notoriously sedentary. He loves to spank the fifth graders (and those years below) and to extort the break money from them. Timmy and his friends also keep falling into Francis' clutches. Fortunately for Timmy, Francis is quite simple-minded and rhetorically slow, so he can easily be tricked. Not much is known about Francis. His family is mentioned rather casually and they seem to be quite seedy.
Remy Buxaplenty Remy is another of Timmy's classmates. He is blonde, green-eyed and a bit stocky and the child of super-rich parents who completely ignore him. So it happens that Remy has a right to a helping elf, although he indulges in luxury . In addition, Remy has no friends, which is why he is jealous of Timmy and wants to dispute his magic godparents. His last name, Buxaplenty , is an allusion to the English words bucks-a-plenty (German roughly: "a lot of money") and bugs-a-plenty (German roughly: "annoying tremendously").
magical creatures
Norm, the genie in a bottle Norm is a genie in a bottle (actually a genie ) who lives in a lava lamp . He has pitch black, slightly wavy hair that he has tied into a more or less upright ponytail. He also likes to wear bling-bling , a long goatee and a forget-me-not blue suit. As a ghost, Norm has no legs, his lower body is serpentine. He is an ancient genie who grants three wishes to anyone who releases him from his lamp. Unfortunately, Norm is vengeful, snippy and spiteful. Wanting something from him can quickly end badly: he takes everything literally on purpose or he is purposely stupid and does the opposite of what he wants. The reasons for his behavior are his pride and arrogance. He dislikes having to serve people very much. So he abuses the naivety and carelessness of his summoners in order to enjoy the failures. Norm hates Timmy because Timmy sees through him and has already thwarted a few nasty pranks by Norm with his magic godparents.
Pixies The pixies represent the negative counterpart to the elves. They too are anthropomorphic, have wings and float incessantly in the air. However, they wear dust-gray suits, gray pointed hats and they use modern cell phones as magic wands. They are characterized by arrogance , narrow-mindedness and sullen faces. They are also power-hungry and keep trying to take over the elven world and take away his magic godparents from Timmy. Timmy is the only one who can stand up to the goblins with his magic godparents and spontaneous ideas.
Anti-elves In addition to the goblins, the elves are threatened by malicious doppelgangers , the so-called anti-elves. As their name suggests, every anti-elf is the stark opposite of its role model: while the good Cosmo, for example, is clumsy and simple-minded, Anti-Cosmo is clever, highly educated and posh (albeit evil). The anti-elves usually live behind a magical portal where they cannot harm anyone. But once a year, on Friday the 13th, the gates are opened and the anti-elves are released for a day. The portal was also opened several times through thoughtless requests or trickery.
Foop Foop is the opposite of Poof. This can already be seen in the fact that it is not round like Poof, but square like a cube and completely colored cobalt blue. A black, F-shaped curl sprouts from his head and he can speak perfectly. He's wearing a blue suit and his crown is pitch black. Instead of rounded wings, it has black bat wings. Instead of a magic rattle, he uses a magic feeding bottle as a magic tool. In the course of the series, Foop joins forces with other villains to form LOSERS (“League of the visually super-disgusting vengefulness”).
Extraterrestrials
Princess Alwut She is not directly Timmy's enemy, but he gets in her way from time to time: Princess Alwut from the planet Boudacia is supposed to be forcibly married to the Yugopotamian Prince Mark Chang . Understandably, Mark is afraid of the choleric and vengeful Alwut and is now looking for refuge on earth. Timmy helped him to do this - which Princess Alwut doesn't approve of at all. For this reason Timmy prefers to avoid the wild noblewoman, because wherever she goes, grass no longer grows.
Dark Laser His figure is based on Darth Vader , but he looks more like an oversized action figure. His character changes suddenly and rapidly from mischievous teenage to choleric and vengeful. With his death ball he tries several times to defeat his archenemy Timmy Turner. He is totally in love with the toy figure Flipsie the dog that can jump in the air and bark.
Important supporting characters
People
Trudy Trudy is Vicky's six year old sister. She too suffers from Vicky's harassment. She has a hopeless crush on Timmy. However, Timmy feels more followed than liked, and he tries to escape Trudy where and how he can. Trudy, in turn, misinterprets Timmy's attempts to escape as sheer shyness, which is why she feels even more drawn to Timmy. Although Trudy suffers greatly from Vicky (and Timmy's rejections), she has no magic godparents.
Chip Skylark Chip is a famous singer and entertainer, believed to be parodying real-life celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Chris Kirkpatrick . Although he is famous and handsome, Chip is comparatively poor because almost all of his profits go to his record company. Timmy had met Chip on his 11th birthday: Because Chip Skylark was giving a concert in Dimmsdale, nobody had congratulated Timmy on his birthday. In revenge, Timmy wished that "something terrible" should happen to Chip, whereupon Cosmo and Wanda kidnapped the singer to Timmy's home. But when Vicky showed up and wanted to forcibly marry Chip because of his fame and (alleged) fortune, Timmy reversed his wish. He and Chip have been close friends ever since. Chip even wrote a mock song ( Zicky Vicky! ) About Vicky. His hobbies include singing, his flawless teeth and screeching fangirls.
Britney Britney She is a pop diva and a blatant parody of Britney Spears . She is very slim, petite, has hip-length, light blonde hair and aquamarine eyes. She is extremely spoiled and snooty. All they care about is their fame. Like Chip Skylark, Britney is a frequent guest in Dimmsdale, where she has a wide following. However, their performances are regularly interrupted by Timmy Turner, either by his wishes or by his parents. When Britney appears at Timmy's parents' house, Mom soon kicks her out of the house, whereupon Britney swears she will "never again promise private appearances".
Elves
Jean-Claude van Ramme He is married to the tooth fairy and Cosmo's cousin . In the world of elves, Jean-Claude van Ramme is responsible for the control of the elves sent to earth and in particular for compliance with the rules. As the only elf, he does not float, but has both feet on the ground. He is significantly larger than the others and very muscular. He usually wears a tank top, camouflage pants and combat boots, and his wand is about the size of himself. His name is a reference to the Belgian actor Jean-Claude Van Damme . In the original he speaks an Austrian accent based on Arnold Schwarzenegger .
The Tooth Fairy She is married to Jean-Claude von Ramme . In the fairy world, she is considered a fashion and beauty icon due to her pronounced attractiveness. As a tooth fairy, she monitors the loss and retrieval of failed milk teeth and the distribution of coins for teeth hidden under pillows. As an expert, she sees through fraud (for example, teeth knocked out by force or self-made models) and punishes naughty children. The tooth fairy likes Timmy a lot, if only because of his oversized front teeth. These should be so pure and flawless that Jean-Claude even wanted to tear them up and give them to the tooth fairy as a wedding present. Tooth fairy's hobbies (in addition to her job) include cosmetics , fitness and smiling.
background
The English language does not differentiate between “fairies” and “elves”, but describes them equally with fairies . The series title is therefore not correctly translated into German. The exception is the double episode " Trapped in the world of fairies ": Here the "helping elves" are translated as "fairy godparents", which comes much closer to the true meaning. In this episode, the characters are also dubbed by other speakers.
Emergence
Production began in 1998. The first airing of season 1 took place in Canada in 2000, in the USA the series has been running since March 30, 2001. The idea came from Frederator Studios , in their series Oh Yeah! Cartoons on Nickelodeon regularly aired pilot episodes of new series and continued if successful. After SpongeBob SquarePants , Cosmo and Wanda is currently the most successful series of the very popular in the USA. Originally the series should be called The Fairly GodParents or Oh My Godparents .
Most of the episodes of the series consist of two 10-minute episodes, but there are also some specials with longer playing times, including (so far) three crossovers with the series Jimmy Neutron (see: Jimmy Neutron vs. Timmy Turner ) as well as three real films for the TV.

Drake Bell plays the now 23-year-old Timmy Turner, who tries not to grow up so as not to lose his elves. He is still in fifth grade with Mr. Crocker ( David Lewis ) and lives with his father ( Daran Norris ) and mother ( Teryl Rothery ). Chief Elf Jean Claude von Ramme ( Mark Gibbon ) wants to end this situation as soon as possible and promises that Timmy will lose his magic godparents as soon as he falls in love. This also happens when Timmy meets the pretty Trudy ( Daniella Monet ), who tries to save the urban park that the industrialist Hugh J. Magnate ( Steven Weber ) wants to crush. After Timmy interferes, Crocker teams up with Magnate and the two kidnap Trudy, Cosmo, Wanda and Poof. Magnate thereby appropriates the elves' desire. Timmy must decide whether he will act as an adult and save Trudy or whether he will keep his elves.
