Darmstadt Talks
The Darmstadt Talks were a series of symposia that took place at irregular intervals between 1950 and 1975 in Darmstadt . In the founding idea, the Darmstadt Talks were each related to the opening of a large exhibition. Depending on the topic, this was later omitted several times. After the 10th Darmstadt interview, u. a. with the retirement of founding member Hans Gerhard Evers a turning point. In 1995 and 2001 there were attempts to resume the talks, which, however, were not linked to one another in terms of content and organization and which did not lead to any follow-up events in the true sense. Since January 2005 the Staatstheater Darmstadt (until his death under the direction of Alexander U. Martens , the former moderator of “ Aspects ”) has been holding a series of panel discussions under the title “New Darmstädter Talks” , which conceptually build on the previous events.
Important participants in the early events included a. Theodor W. Adorno , Martin Heidegger , Max Horkheimer and José Ortega y Gasset . The discussions were held in public and aimed at an interested lay audience.
The Darmstadt Talks served as a model for the Frankfurt Römerberg Talks .
