The Dhankuta District ( Nepali धनकुटा जिल्ला ) is one of 77 districts in Nepal and has been part of the Constitution of 2015 for Province No. 1, .
Its main town is the city of the same name, Dhankuta .
Geography and vegetation
The 891 km² district is located in the east of Nepal in the foothills of the Himalayas . The height ranges from about 300 m to 2500 m . Its district neighbors are Bhojpur and Udayapur in the west, Sunsari and Morang in the south . In the east, Dhankuta borders on the Panchthar and Terhathum districts , and in the north on the Sankhuwasabha district . The vegetation zones in the district range from subtropical sal forests along the Tamor and Arun rivers to coniferous forests in the temperate zone on high ridges that mark the watershed between the two rivers. The most important crops include corn, rice and millet, as well as citrus fruits, cauliflower, cabbage, ginger and, in recent years, tea. A well-preserved forest extends along a ridge line on the northwest side of the main town of Dhankuta with rhododendron and pine trees.

According to the census, the district had 163,412 inhabitants in 2011 and the population density was 186.8 people / km². The largest ethnic groups in the district are the Chetri and the Tamang , the Limbu , the Rai as well as the Brahmins and the Magar . The majority of the population works in agriculture.

The Koshi Rajmarg highway runs through the district in a north-south direction .
