Divizia A 1987/88

The Divizia A 1988/89 was the 51st season in the history of the Romanian football league Divizia A. It started on August 21, 1988 and ended on June 20, 1989 . Games were closed from mid-December to early March ( winter break ).

Champion was Steaua Bucharest for the fifth time in a row .

The 18 teams played against each other twice on 34 match days. The three last-place teams went into the Divizia B from. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a defeat. If two or more teams were tied at the end of the season, the goal difference decided .

As in the 1987/88 season , this season was dominated by Steaua Bucharest and Dinamo Bucharest . Steaua reached more points than any other team in Divizia A. The team only gave points at Dinamo (0-0), Universitatea Cluj (2-2) and FCM Brașov (2-2). The preliminary decision in the fight for the championship fell when Dinamo lost 2-1 at Steaua on March 22, 1989 and had to admit defeat to FC Olt 0-1 on May 3 .
