In the 2019/20 season , the regional leagues north, east, west and south-west as well as the Bayern league, which are equivalent to them, were the fourth-highest league level in German ice hockey .

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the state ice sports associations canceled the season on March 11, 2020.
Regionalliga North
The Regionalliga Nord for teams from Lower Saxony , Hamburg , Bremen , Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was carried out by the Lower Saxony State Ice Sports Association (NEV) for the so-called Northern Association , consisting of the regional associations of the federal states involved.
Attendees
The league plays with eight teams, two more than in the previous season. Master ECW Sande renounced promotion to the league. The EC Harzer Falken withdrew from the Oberliga Nord due to ongoing insolvency proceedings. FTV Hamburg 1b and TuS Harsefeld are promoted from the association league.
The EC Nordhorn had to retire early September due to the closure of its ice rink for cracks in the roof. The Adendorfer EC had to withdraw in mid-November due to the closure of its ice rink after damage to the refrigeration system.

Mode and appointments
The seven teams first played a single round (12 games per team) until January 26, 2020. The first six qualified for the placement round (10 games). This was played from January 31, 2020. From this, the first six teams qualified for the play-offs . These playoffs should be played in 'best-of-five' mode. The final winner would have been champion of the Regionalliga Nord 2019/2020.
The last placed team played a relegation round (8 games) with the three best of the Verbandsliga Nord, from which the four best teams should have qualified for the Regionalliga 2020/21.

The playoffs were not played. The winner of the intermediate round Harzer Falken was declared champion at a league conference at the end of June.
Relegation
The last of the main round of the Regionalliga Nord - Hamburg Crocodiles 1b - and the first three of the Verbandsliga Nord took part in the relegation:

No other games were played. Timmendorfer Strand rose to the regional league, while FTV Hamburg 1b withdrew to the association league.
Regional League East
The Regionalliga Ost comprised teams from the federal states of Berlin, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The organizer was the Saxon Ice Sports Association .
Attendees
The league played with nine teams. Master Schönheide renounced the promotion. The ECC Preussen Berlin rose from the league. New to the league was the champions of the Landesliga Berlin, the Eisbären Juniors Berlin. The Bad Muskau Bombers withdrew from the regional league.

Regionalliga West
The regional league west was hosted by the North Rhine-Westphalia Ice Hockey Association (EHV-NRW). In addition to NRW, RL West also included the federal states of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate.
Attendees
The league played with seven teams. Master Herford renounced promotion to the league. Likewise, the champions of the Landesliga NRW TuS Wiehl and the Hessenliga EJ Kassel waived promotion to the regional league. Relegated to the Hessenliga was Lowen Frankfurt 1b. The EC Lauterbach and the Soester EG withdrew from the league.

The seven teams played a double round (24 games). The first six teams qualified for the placement round (called pre-play-offs), of which the first four qualified for the play-offs. The last of the double round played a qualifying round with the four best teams in the national league.
The playoffs were played in best-of-five mode. The final winner and champion of the Regionalliga West would have been athletically qualified for the Oberliga Nord 2020/21.
With the exception of the Ratinger Ice Aliens, the teams also took part in the Inter Regio Cup with six teams from the BeNe League . The NRW clubs took part in the NRW Cup.

The Regionalliga Süd-West covered the area of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The organizer was the Ice Sports Association of Baden-Württemberg . Traditionally, the EHC Zweibrücken from Rhineland-Palatinate also took part in the league.

The master SC Bietigheim 1b could not be promoted to the league as the second team of a DEL2 club. State league champion ESG Esslingen renounced promotion to the regional league. The EHC Freiburg 1b withdrew from game operations, so that the field of participants only comprised eight teams.

Bayern League
The Bavarian Ice Hockey League was organized by the Bavarian Ice Sports Association .
Attendees
The EV Füssen achieved promotion to the 2019/20 Oberliga via the interlocking round . New in the league were the EHC Waldkraiburg (relegated from the Oberliga) and the EC Pfaffenhofen (promoted from the regional league). The EV Pegnitz (relegated to the regional league) and the Bayern league champion EV Füssen (promoted to the upper league) were no longer there .
mode
The 14 teams played a main round (single round) with 26 games per team. The best six teams in the main round and the last two teams in the Oberliga Süd took part in the upper intermediate round (interlocking round). The best placed Bayern league team in the interlocking round of the Oberliga Süd became Bavarian champions of the Bayern League. The eight other teams in the Bayernliga played a relegation round. In the first playoff round, the two best teams of the relegation round met places 7 and 8 of the interlocking round. The winners would have participated in the quarter-finals of the play-offs. The playoff finalists would have qualified for the Oberliga Süd 2020/2021. The last two teams of the relegation round determined in the play-downs (best-of-five) the relegated to the national league.

The EC Bad Kissinger Wölfe withdrew its team from the league on November 22, 2019.
