Dishes in the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha
This list covers the courts in the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha . Due to the identity of the courts, it also deals with the courts of the Free States of Coburg and Saxony-Gotha .
Until the reform of 1858
The Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha emerged in 1826 from the Ernestine duchies of Saxe-Coburg and Saxe-Gotha .
The Principality of Lichtenberg was also part of the Duchy until 1834 . For the organization of courts in the Principality of Lichtenberg see Principality of Lichtenberg # Government, Administration and Justice Organization .
The German Federal Act regulated that every state had to set up a higher appeal court . The small states had to form joint higher appeal courts. The small states of Thuringia, including Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, therefore merged to form the Jena Higher Appeal Court . The ducal judicial colleges in Coburg and Gotha served as courts of appeal . The Justice College Gotha was responsible for the Principality of Gotha, the Justice College Coburg for the Principality of Coburg. State and municipal courts as well as patrimonial courts served as entrance courts . In addition, some authorities had a judicial function.

Authorities with a judicial function
The Obermarschall-Amt in Coburg was the entrance court in civil matters for the court servants. There were military courts in Gotha and Coburg. These were the entry court in civil matters for the military and investigative bodies in criminal matters. In criminal cases, a court martial has been set up to try them. At the seats of the judicial offices there were forest offices that decided in forest and wildlife crime matters. The mining offices in Henneberg and Liebenstein were responsible for judgments in mining law matters. In addition, there were a large number of spiritual sub-courts that were entrance courts for the clergy and in matrimonial matters.
The judicial and administrative reform of 1858
In 1858 the administration of justice was separated from the administration . The Jena Higher Appeal Court was still at the head of the court . Two district courts ( district court Coburg and district court Gotha ) and legal offices below were set up:
After the introduction of the Reich Justice Act in 1879
After the introduction of the Reich Justice Laws in 1879, the court structure was created, which was to last until the end of the state. At the head of the instance was the Imperial Court , to which the Thuringian Higher Regional Court of Jena was subordinate. The Duchy of Coburg belonged to the District Court of Meiningen , the Duchy of Gotha to the District Court of Gotha . These included the following local courts:
