Gervais Yao Kouassi (born May 27, 1987 in Anyama ), called Gervinho , is an Ivorian football player . The striker has played for the Italian first division club Parma Calcio since August 2018 and is also active in the Ivorian national team .
Career
In the club
Gervinho was trained at the ASEC Abidjan youth academy led by Jean-Marc Guillou and moved to Europe in 2004 to the Belgian club KSK Beveren . After another year in youth, he made his debut in the 1st division in 2005 and made 61 league appearances in the following two years.
In July 2007, Gervinho and his two compatriots and teammates Zito and Sekou Ouattara were signed by UC Le Mans for a total of 650,000 euros . While Ouattara and Zito played on loan at Beveren for another year in Belgium, Gervinho immediately switched to the French first division club and was mostly in the starting line-up in the first half of the 2007/08 season. For the 2009/10 season he moved to Lille OSC and signed a contract for three years until the end of the 2011/12 season. In his first year with the northern French, he was recognized as the season's best field player in Ligue 1.
In July 2011, Arsenal FC signed Gervinho. For the 2013/14 season he went to the Italian Serie A for AS Roma . On January 27, 2016, he moved to Hebei China Fortune in the Chinese Super League for a transfer fee of 18 million euros .
For the 2018/19 season Gervinho moved to Serie A promoted Parma Calcio .
National player
Gervinho was the captain of the Ivorian Olympic team. He led the team to a successful qualification for the 2008 Olympic Football Tournament in China, in which the country participated for the first time. In November 2007 he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time and was used in two preparatory games for the 2008 African Cup of Nations, in which Gervinho was in the squad. In the final of the Africa Cup of 2012, he missed the decisive penalty, whereby the Zambian selection won the title.
