Harold Eugene Ford, Jr. (born May 11, 1970 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American politician . From 1997 to 2007 he sat for the Democratic Party in the United States House of Representatives .

Harold Ford is the son of Harold Ford Sr. , who is not only one of the most influential politicians in Tennessee, but also "bequeathed" the seat in the House of Representatives to his son. Ford Jr. belongs to the more conservative wing within the Democratic Party, which relies on increased cooperation with the Republicans . These include, for example, the New Democrat Coalition or the Blue Dog Coalition .

He studied law at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan . He then served as a staff member on the Senate Budget Committee and special assistant in the US Department of Commerce . Ford was first elected to Congress in Tennessee's ninth constituency in 1996 and was re-elected four times. In 2006 he decided not to run for the House of Representatives again in order to seek a seat in the Senate. He lost this election to Republican candidate Bob Corker .
