The (large) community Marienwerder was formed on May 1, 2001 from the formerly independent communities Marienwerder and Sophienstädt . On December 31, 2002, the previously independent municipality of Ruhlsdorf was added. At that time, all three communities belonged to the Groß Schönebeck (Schorfheide) office, which was formed in 1992 . This was dissolved on October 26, 2003; the community Marienwerder was assigned to the office of Biesenthal-Barnim .
Marienwerder district
The establishment of the place in 1746 goes back to Frederick the Great . In the course of the construction of the Finow Canal, a spinner village was to be built on the Leesenbrücke .
Ruhlsdorf district
Ruhlsdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1315. Typical farmsteads with eaves-facing houses and gable-facing stables are still preserved today.
Sophienstädt district
Sophienstädt emerged from a Vorwerk that was laid out after 1700. A large fire in 1824 destroyed many half-timbered houses, but they were rebuilt.

Blazon : "In silver on a blue corrugated shield base, a left-facing red sailing boat with a silver-windowed cabin, blue sail, covered with a silver spool of thread, and a red pennant on the black mast top."
The origin of the coat of arms goes back to the 19th century. In 1935 the version designed by the heraldist Ottfried Neubecker was approved by the Prussian State Ministry as the municipal coat of arms of Marienwerder.
The boat on the waves describes the location of the district between the Oder-Havel Canal in the north and the Finow Canal in the south, which Marienwerder also earned the name "island". The spindle reminds of the founding of the place as a spinner village by Frederick the Great in the 18th century.
