Miltiadis "Miltos" Tendoglou ( Greek Μιλτιάδης Τεντόγλου ; born March 18, 1998 in Grevena ) is a Greek athlete who specializes in the long jump and triple jump . In 2018 he became European champion at the European Championships in Berlin with a width of 8.25 m.
Athletic career
Miltiadis Tendoglou has been active in the long jump on the international stage since 2015, initially at the U18 World Championships , which were held in Cali , Colombia . There he took fifth place with a width of 7.66 m. A year later he took silver at the U20 World Championships 2016 in Bydgoszcz with a width of 7.91 m. Later that year he also made the jump to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There he could not build on his previous widths with a width of 7.64 m and failed in the qualification in the final 27th place.
In 2017 he placed at the Greek Championships with a width of 8.30 m, which was a new national U20 record, and won a long jump at a higher level for the first time in the adult area. In the same year he was at the U20 European Championships in Grosseto, Italy with a width of 8.07 m European U20 champion. At the subsequent World Championships for adults in London, he did not get past 19th place in qualification with a width of 7.79 m.
In 2018 he achieved his greatest sporting success so far when he won the gold medal at the European Championships in Berlin with a width of 8.25 m ahead of German Fabian Heinle and Ukrainian Serhij Nykyforow , who both jumped equally far.
A year later he won the title at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow with a new personal best of 8.38 m . Later in the summer he jumped another personal best with 8.32 m, this time in the open air. With that he won the title at the U23 European Championships . At the World Championships in Doha he reached the final, but was only tenth with a width of 7.79 m and thus remained well below his distance from the qualification.
In 2017 and 2018 Tendoglou became the Greek champion in the long jump.
