Michelbach-le-Bas (German Nieder-Michelbach ) is a French commune with 697 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Mulhouse , the canton of Saint-Louis and the municipality of Saint-Louis Agglomération .
geography
The municipality of Michelbach-le-Bas is located in the Sundgau , about ten kilometers northwest of Basel and 20 kilometers east of Mulhouse . A few kilometers east of Michelbach-le-Haut is the Basel-Mulhouse airport .
Neighboring communities of Michelbach-le-Bas are Brinckheim in the north, Blotzheim in the east, Hésingue in the southeast, Attenschwiller in the south, Ranspach-le-Bas in the west and Kappelen in the northwest.
From 1915 on, the community owned a train station on the Waldighoffen – Saint-Louis-la-Chaussée line . This comprised two sidings and a loading siding. Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1955 and the line closed in 1960.

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Michelbach-le-Bas belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Mulhouse in the district of Upper Alsace .
