Prospect (exhibition)
Prospect is the title of a series of exhibitions with avant-garde art that was held in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf from 1968 to 1976. The initiators were Hans Strelow , art critic and later gallery owner, and the gallery owner Konrad Fischer .
history
The idea of an “International Preview of Art in Avant-Garde Galleries” (the subtitle of the show) arose in part as a reaction to the 1st Cologne Art Market in 1967, which was limited exclusively to the program of German galleries.
The initiators put together a list of suggestions with avant-garde artists of the time, especially Minimal Art , Land Art , Arte Povera and Conceptual Art . The proposals were submitted to a committee of internationally renowned experts who voted on them and were able to make their own proposals. The galleries of the artists selected in this way were then invited. The exhibition lasted about ten days each.
A total of five exhibitions under the main title Prospect were carried out, the last three with a theme: 1968, 1969, 1971 projection , 1973 painter, painters, Peintres , 1976 Retrospect .
Importance and sustainability
The exhibitions Prospect 68 , 69 and 71 had a particularly lasting effect . They are considered programmatic for the various art movements of the time ( Prospect 68 and 69 ) and for photo, film and video art ( Prospect 71 - Projection ). Prospect 73 - Maler, Painters, Peintres provided information on current trends in painting. Prospect Restrospect 1976 gave an overview of relevant exhibitions in Europe from 1946 to 1976.
