The radical 29 meaning “again” is one of 23 of the 214 traditional radicals in Chinese writing that are written with two strokes.

The radical re-takes only in the traditional characters - list of traditional radicals with 214 radicals the 29th position. It can be found in a completely different place in modern abbreviation dictionaries. In the New Chinese-German Dictionary from the People's Republic of China, for example, it is in 35th position.

The character developed from the representation of a hand reaching for something. This radical represents the right hand reduced to three fingers. One point in it, and we have the fork (叉). Two "hands" moving in the same direction mean friendship (友). Sometimes the original meaning hand can still be recognized today, for example in

  • 取 (= record) or
  • 受 (= received).

This also applies to 叔 (= uncle), which originally meant to collect.
The sign is similar to the katakana sign "nu" , and the zhuyin sign [ɔʊ̯] .

The abbreviation in the People's Republic of China又has become shortened character to a frequently occurring component that different than complicated considered parts replaced, such as in鄧→邓(Deng, a surname Deng Xiaoping ) or戲→戏(= play, play ).
