The radical 8 with the meaning "cover" is one of 23 of the 214 traditional radicals of Chinese characters that are written with two strokes. The sign looks similar to the Hangul sign ㅗ "o" .
With 15 character combinations in Mathews' Chinese-English Dictionary , it is relatively rare. In the Kangxi dictionary there were 38 characters that can be found under this radical.
The radical lid only occupies the 8th position in the long - character list of traditional radicals , which consists of 214 radicals. It can be found in a completely different place in modern abbreviation dictionaries. In the New Chinese-German Dictionary from the People's Republic of China, for example, it is in 9th position.
The semicolon 亠 was not originally a radical, but was only used in the Kangxi dictionary to classify characters that are difficult to classify, such as:
character | Explanation |
---|---|
亢 | haughty |
亥 | 12. Earth branch |
If the first two dashes of a character are 亠, they probably come from this radical, e.g. B. in 帝 (di = emperor), 就 (jiu = then) or the family name 赢 Ying. Otherwise, a symbol such as 裹 or 衰 can also come from the radical 145衣, as is explained there.
