The radical 24 meaning " ten " is one of the 23 traditional radicals in Chinese writing that are written with two strokes.

With 17 character combinations in Mathews' Chinese-English Dictionary , it is relatively rare. In the Kangxi dictionary there are 55 characters under this radical.

When the first numbers were still given with horizontal lines, the number "ten" was written with a vertical line. Later the signs “one” and “ten” were combined into a cross. The sign is distantly similar to the katakana sign "na".

In the so-called upper case to prevent counterfeiting, for example on checks or banknotes, the number ten 拾 is written.

The radical十also acts as a sound vehicle for example in the following abbreviations :

什 (= what) and
汁 (= juice).

It is not so easy to identify it as a radical in 升 (= increase). As a radical it occurs in the following characters:

The two swastika symbols 卍 and 卐 can also be found under this radical . In the Chinese culture, the swastika represents the character for the word “sun” within a circle, without a circle (Chinese 卍, 卐, wàn) for myriad (10,000, “infinity”, actually: Chinese 万 / 萬). The fact that the sign also means fertility in the figurative sense results from the fact that it can be found on images of procreation and reproduction in the various peoples. If it appears on the packaging of Chinese-made foods, it means that they are purely vegetarian.

The emblem of Falun Gong , a Qi Gong movement from China , also contains several swastika symbols. It shows a red circle with a large golden swastika symbol (swastika angled to the left = right-turning swastika ), which is enclosed by an orange ring with four other swastika symbols and four yin-yang symbols.
