With 4 character combinations in Mathews' Chinese-English Dictionary , there are very few characters that can be found under this radical in the lexicons. Also in the Kangxi dictionary there are no more than 10 characters under this radical.

As a point (Punkt diǎn), radical 3 belongs to the eight principles of the character (永字八法 Yǒngzì Bāfǎ), which are the basis of Chinese calligraphy . The current shape of the character in the form of a drop comes from the use of the writing brush . Originally it was in the shape of a small circle.
