Radical 111 , meaning " arrow ", is one of 23 of the 214 traditional radicals in Chinese writing that are written with five strokes.
With 10 combinations of characters in Mathews' Chinese-English Dictionary, there are very few characters that can be found under this radical in the lexicon.
The radical "Arrow" takes only in the traditional characters - list of traditional radicals consisting of 214 radicals 111. position. It can be found in a completely different place in modern abbreviation dictionaries. In the New Chinese-German Dictionary from the People's Republic of China, for example, it is in 148th position.
The character developed from the pictorial representation of a pointed arrow with an intermediate piece and a feathered end.
矢 gives its composite characters the meaning field arrow as in 医 (yi = medic, originally a quiver filled with arrows), 族 (zu = tribe, race, but originally arrowhead, which is now written 镞 (zu), 钅 metal plus 族 zu as a sound carrier), 矫 (correct jiao, originally a device for straightening arrows), 矩 (= joiner's stop angle, rule).
Laut also appears as a sound carrier: 雉 (= pheasant), 彘 (= pig). In the left or relatively left position in the compound character, the last line (bottom right) is to be executed as a dot line as in 知 (= know) or 肄 (= learn).
