Radical 165 with the meaning "distinguish, select " is one of 20 of the 214 traditional radicals in Chinese writing that are written with seven strokes. With 4 character combinations in Mathews' Chinese-English Dictionary , there are very few characters that can be found under this radical in the lexicon.

The radical Select assumes only in the traditional characters - list of traditional radicals consisting of 214 radicals, the 165th position. It can be found in a completely different place in modern abbreviation dictionaries. In the New Chinese-German Dictionary from the People's Republic of China, for example, it is in 197th position.

The classic dictionaries give this radical a different pronunciation than the one used today, namely bian. The pictogram shows the imprint of the paw of a wild animal with the claws (the four points) and the paw. This explains the meaning of “mark”.

In addition to the radical wind, the radical means "collect folk songs". Combined with the "plant", the radical is called "vegetable".
