Radical 159 , meaning “ carriage ”, “ wheel ” is one of twenty of the 214 traditional radicals in Chinese script that are written with seven strokes.

With 77 combinations of characters in Mathews' Chinese-English Dictionary, there are relatively many characters that can be found under this radical in the lexicon.

The radical "car" takes only in the traditional characters - list of traditional radicals consisting of 214 radicals 179. position. It can be found in a completely different place in modern abbreviation dictionaries. In the New Chinese-German Dictionary from the People's Republic of China, for example, 车 is in the 100th position.

The car is seen from above. The seal clearly shows a Chinese two-wheeled car from above: the two horizontal lines symbolize the two wheels at the top and bottom, the car body can be seen in the middle .

In the compound symbol 車 often functions as a bearer of meaning and creates the meaning field wagon, for example in 轴 (= axle), 轮 (lun = wheel), 辈 (in = generation, was originally a unit of 100 wagons), 载 (zai = loaded). The original meaning of 車 is army, in which war chariots played a major role. This is also reflected in the symbol for army, which contains the car as a crucial component: 軍 (jun = army). The lid (冖) on the wagon is not a roof, but emerged from the component 匀 (yun = uniform) and is therefore (a no longer recognizable) sound carrier. The basic meaning of the combined symbol 库 (ku = warehouse) is a place to park the chariot, hence the components 广 (yan = accommodation) plus 車 (wagon).

In the left position in the symbol, the lower horizontal line of 车 is to be implemented as a 提 line pointing diagonally to the top right, as in 軌 (gui = track) or 转 (zhuan = rotate).

The abbreviation of the radical is 车; with 車 is coded from 8ECA to 轥 8F65, then with 车 from 8F66 to 辚 8F9A.
